help with stand alone testing vs. container based initialization

Greetings,
We're experimenting with a whack of new (to us) technologies and have
hit a minor snag. We're creating EJBs and their supporting classes for the
JBoss framework, which uses log4j as it's logging package. We've just
started using JUnit from within Ant, but every class that uses logging spits
out the standard " ERROR No appenders could be found for category" message.

So, is there a standard way to:
    a) initialize log4j from within ant and/or junit ?
    -or-
    b) turn off error msgs ?

Thanks in advance,
 Ivar
