[jira] Created: (XALANC-528) evaluation of xpath expression containing number-functions failes

evaluation of xpath expression containing number-functions failes
-----------------------------------------------------------------

         Key: XALANC-528
         URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/XALANC-528
     Project: XalanC
        Type: Bug
  Components: XalanC
    Versions: CurrentCVS
 Environment: SuSE Linux 9.3
    Reporter: Axel Weiss
 Attachments: test.xml, test1.xsl, test2.xsl, test3.xsl

The evaluation of an xpath expression like
<xsl:variable name="index" select="/test/b/a[@x=$name]/position()"/>
fails. Error message: XPathParserException: '{0}' is an unknown node type.
expression = '/test/b/a[@x=$name]/position()' Remaining tokens are:  ( 'position' '(' ')')

While very similar expressions like
<xsl:variable name="index" select="/test/b/a[@x=$name]/@y"/>
or
<xsl:variable name="index" select="position()"/>
give correct results.

I'll attach some simple test cases.

[jira] Resolved: (XALANC-528) evaluation of xpath expression containing number-functions failes

Posted by "David Bertoni (JIRA)" <xa...@xml.apache.org>.
     [ http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/XALANC-528?page=all ]

David Bertoni resolved XALANC-528:
----------------------------------

    Resolution: Invalid

The XPath 1.0 grammar limits what can appear as a step in an location path:

http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath#section-Location-Steps

In general, a function cannot appear as a step. Unfortunately, you are also tripping another Xalan-C 1.9 bug related to the substitution of tokens in error messages. This error message should read:

XPathParserException: 'position' is an unknown node type.

That bug is already fixed in the repository.
