In spanish we have: áéíóúüñ (and the uppercases).

AFAIK, there are 2 bytes for each one.

It works for me as long as I do not use polish national characters - I think
you use one byte characters only while most polish letters are encoded with 2
bytes.

I use UTF-8 too.

I don't know. Maybe you don't use UTF-8 or such special characters. That 
this bug exists is confirmed by many people on users list for example or 
the two bugs in bugzilla (24457, and the blocking 24278) related to this.
