RE: Excel image sizes

Hi Mark,

I'm interested to know if you found the solution for that particular image
size problem. I have to extract images from Excel files and also we must
know the exact image position and size as it appears inside Excel...
Thanks,

André

Yes, that is the project I was referring to and yes again, the revisions
should be a part of version 3.8 as far as I am aware. From what I do
remember, the work undertaken was at quite a fundamental level and did
include a revision of the Escher layer objects. Since it was completed, I
have not needed to work with images again and so have not looked closely to
see what the changes were but it may be the case - that is may -m that it is
now possible to simply and directly link from escher to picture. If my very
dodgy, aging memory is accurate, that was the problem we faced before;
getting the preferred size from the picture gave us duff info but getting
the escher records allowed us to establish the image's actual size. However,
at that point in time it was not possible - at least it was not a trivial
task - to work out which chunk of the escher records related to which
picture. Maybe that has changed now. I do not know if this is the case but
feel it might be worth looking into.

Interesting... Are you talking about this particular project [
http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/project/google/gsoc2012/evgeniy44/6001] ?
Does this effort is not part of Apache POI 3.8 ?

Details elude me, but I do remember that a significant amount of work was
undertaken on the image handling side of things for a GSOC project - I
think. It may well be that the problem has been addressed during this
process but I do not know that for certain; when I say 'problem' here, I
mean tying the Escher records back to a specific image in the workbook. It
did seem as though working with the Escher layer offerd the best opportunity
to determine the images actual size.

No problem Mark we all have priorities and this is the way open source
projects work. Thanks for your feedbacks!

Sorry to say this but I never went any further with the investigation as I
did not receive a reply. We now use Open/LibreOffice exclusively and, as a
result, my contributions here have dwindled and I can now only really help
answer the most obvious of questions. Which is all, I guess, a roundabout
way of saying that no, I do not have the answer to your question, sorry.
