Cannot open password protected documents

I am attempting to open password protected Microsoft excel and word documents with open office and am unable to do so. Any suggestions?

Encrypted documents saved with Office 2010 and later cannot be opened in 
OpenOffice.

Well, I can't test it myself, so I don't know if it will work or not, but
you could try to open it with LibreOffice.
