   hmm. this doesn't make sense if it works on a local file system but not S3, since the URI get passed into both PinotFS should be the same. I wonder if it is something wrong with the PinotFS impl for S3. but I will look into it. 
   
   Meanwhile, you can take a look at: https://github.com/apache/pinot/issues/8072. by setting the deletion retention period to zero so it will instantly delete the files
