[Issue 127388] New: manual column-break in PAGE HEADER is ignored
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=127388
Issue ID: 127388
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: manual column-break in PAGE HEADER is ignored
Product: Writer
Version: 4.2.0-dev
Hardware: All
OS: Windows 7
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 (lowest)
Component: formatting
Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
Reporter: David.Fritzsch@ok.de
Target Milestone: ---
Created attachment 86027
--> https://bz.apache.org/ooo/attachment.cgi?id=86027&action=edit
Testfile for: manual column-break in page header
Description:
Manual column is ignored/does not work on page header/footer.
(Inside the page it works)
-> Doing this inside the page the manual column break works as expected.
* text breaks to new column;
Steps to Reproduce:
1. I created a page footer with 4 columns.
2. Now I insert a manual column break by pressing SHIFT+CTRL+ENTER.
Actual Results:
manual column seem to be ignored
or 'seems' to be just a 'normal' line break.
Expected Results:
should break text flow to break column.
Pressing CTRL+F10 to see control chars does indicates a manual column break
either.
Notice:
libre office had the same bug till version 5.2.6:
http://mail-archive.com/libreoffice-bugs@lists.freedesktop.org/msg406984.html
in LO5.3 it was fixed.
Background-infos:
...concerning Test2(in header)- Guess it's the same here as in LO.
The <style:paragraph-properties fo:break-before="column"/> is inserted when
pressing SHIFT+CTRL+ENTER but it's not shown/rendered.
...about Test3(in table) seem there is some silent excepting or condition
blocking the manual column break

Reproducable in AOO413m1 (Build:9783) -Rev. 1761381 - 2016-09-29 02:39:19
Problem occurs in Footer, too, not only in Header
It looks like that Test 3 (Table) by David.Fritzsch@ok.de in "Testfile for:
manual column-break in page header" where column break in a table is not
happening is found in 2007, see in
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=81625
Attached "Issue 127388.gif" is a reproduction of the problem with realistic
test data where the user would like to move page number in the footer with a
column break.

--- Comment #3 from Cosmin Marian <co...@marian.im> ---
Repro environment:
- AUT: OO Writer from Apache OpenOffice
- Build versions: AOO420m1(Build:9800) - Rev. 1829211, AOO415m1(Build:9789) -
Rev. 1817496.
- OS: MS Windows 7, MS Windows 8, MS Windows 8.1, MS Windows 10.
- Using 2 systems: One high-end performance, one entry-level performance.
Repro steps:
1. Launch Writer.
2. Insert Header.
3. Fill in some text in the Header.
4. Configure the Header with multiple columns.
5. Position the I-cursor in the body of text and use the Insert Manual Break
option or Crtl+Shift+Enter Kb shortcut. Notice behavior.
Actual results:
A manual line break is performed, not a manual column break. The I-cursor and
the following text jump to the next row under.
Expected results:
Manual column break is performed. The I-cursor and the following text jump to
the top of the next column.
Notes:
- This issue is also reproducible when at step 2. a footer is inserted (and
used instead of the header).
- This issue is NOT reproducible in the body of the page using columns.
- As mentioned in Repro environment, this issue is reproducible on the current
stable version of AOO 4.1.5.
- Also tested on other comparable products (MS Word 2016 and LibreOffice 6).
They don’t have this issue because they do not allow columns in the header or
footer.
- As mentioned in previous comments and in
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=81625 , manual column break
functionality is not available in tables.

Reproducible in version 4.1.2 as well. Windows 7.
Problem exists independently of column selection in Header/Footer. When cursor
is in the header/footer box, Page Break is disabled, and Column Break follows
Line Break behavior. Results are identical whether column break is selected
via menu or keyboard shortcut.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Insert header
2. In header box, type "word 1"
3. hit enter
4. Type "word 2"
5. place cursor after word 1
6. Ctrl+Shift+Enter OR navigate to Insert/Manual Break/Column Break
7. Observe - Line break is entered
8. Add any number of columns into header
9. Repeat steps 6 and 7

option or press Crtl+Shift+Enter.
Actual results:
A manual line break is performed, not a manual column break. The cursor and the
following text jump to the next row under.
Expected results:
