Problems Building 1.7.1 From Source
I am trying to build Cactus 1.7.1 from source since it appears to be the
only way right now to get something that supports J2EE 1.4, Servlet 2.4,
and JSP 2.0.
I am doing a build from a clean tree, freshly unpacked from the source
distribution file. The only change I have made is to set the cactus
port (since I already have something running on port 8080). When the
compile gets to the Ant Integration stuff, I get the following failures
in the unit tests:
[junit] Testcase:
testRandomAccess(org.apache.cactus.integration.ant.deployment.TestJarArc
hive): FAILED
[junit] The test input
org/apache/cactus/integration/ant/deployment/randomaccess.jar does not
exist
[junit] junit.framework.AssertionFailedError: The test input
org/apache/cactus/integration/ant/deployment/randomaccess.jar does not
exist
[junit] at
org.apache.cactus.integration.ant.deployment.TestJarArchive.getTestInput
(TestJarArchive.java:171)
[junit] at
org.apache.cactus.integration.ant.deployment.TestJarArchive.testRandomAc
cess(TestJarArchive.java:86)
[junit] Testcase:
testContainsClass(org.apache.cactus.integration.ant.deployment.TestJarAr
chive): FAILED
[junit] The test input
org/apache/cactus/integration/ant/deployment/containsclass.jar does not
exist
[junit] junit.framework.AssertionFailedError: The test input
org/apache/cactus/integration/ant/deployment/containsclass.jar does not
exist
[junit] at
org.apache.cactus.integration.ant.deployment.TestJarArchive.getTestInput
(TestJarArchive.java:171)
[junit] at
org.apache.cactus.integration.ant.deployment.TestJarArchive.testContains
Class(TestJarArchive.java:102)
[junit] Testcase:
testContainsClassEmpty(org.apache.cactus.integration.ant.deployment.Test
JarArchive): FAILED
[junit] The test input
org/apache/cactus/integration/ant/deployment/empty.jar does not exist
[junit] junit.framework.AssertionFailedError: The test input
org/apache/cactus/integration/ant/deployment/empty.jar does not exist
[junit] at
org.apache.cactus.integration.ant.deployment.TestJarArchive.getTestInput
(TestJarArchive.java:171)
[junit] at
org.apache.cactus.integration.ant.deployment.TestJarArchive.testContains
ClassEmpty(TestJarArchive.java:115)
When I look in the
target-13/testinput/org/apache/cactus/integration/ant/deployment
directory, I see the files "containsclasslib.war", "containsClass.war",
and "empty.war"; the three files causing the failures in fact do not
exist. They also do not exist in the source tree. Is this an expected
problem? For the interim, I am going to comment out the three failing
tests so I can continue.

Hi Allison,
Sorry for the late reply; hopefully I can still help..

Could you please try building from SVN's trunk? The 1.7.x branch is
deprecated; (hopefully) we are not releasing any new versions based on
that branch.

What command are you using? Just plain ant?

Where did you change that setting? And on which server are you testing?
Did you try to build without setting any server on HOME/build.properties?

I've never seem this problem; anyway, I'm doing a new build and will see
what happens...
