[DISCUSSION] Ready for graduation?
I think we should start a discussion on whether we're ready to graduate as
a TLP.
We joined as an incubator project in June 2016. Since then we've released
6 versions of Apache Juneau (6.4.0 will be the 7th) and accomplished
significant collaboration with the Apache Streams team. All releases have
gone smoothly, and we've introduced an impressive number of new features
and enhancements over that time.
We currently have 6 active members in the PPMC. This is a bit light for
graduation, but I'm confident that this will continue to grow once we're a
TLP.
What say we?

The "Juneau" name was invented here and the preliminary search didn't find
any existing projects with that name, so fingers-crossed. The only concern
I see is a developer named "Josh Juneau" at Fermilab that appears to have
lots of sample Java code online under the package "org.juneau".
I think we're on a holding pattern until that's resolved. I don't think
there's anything else to start (especially if we have to change the name).
I'll send a message when we hear back.

There's no specific timeframe. The important part is to get the submission
entered, Shane and his team will take care of getting it resolved. As long
as the name doesn't belong to the donator (IBM) then there's no fundamental
issues with the naming.

Re: [DISCUSSION] Ready for graduation?
Posted by "John D. Ament" <jo...@apache.org>.
I'd also be happy to stay on the PMC.
I've mentioned before what I'd like to see the flow be, based on what I've
seen as successful.
- Have a formal discussion here, if we think we're good that's fine.
- Start a vote. We'll want to forward the vote to the IPMC on general@
- Prepare the charter, Craig's sent out links for this
- Once we've agreed on the charter here, use that as the basis for
discussion on general@incubator
- Start & complete the vote (normal 72 hour window)
Once we get through that, we'll go over how to submit the resolution to the
board.
I have updated the status file if anyone else can review it -
http://incubator.apache.org/projects/juneau.html
James, if you can send out specifically what links are broken that would
help. The most common issue I've seen is link: not converting properly.
It's a weird reason each time.

Re: [DISCUSSION] Ready for graduation?
Posted by Craig Russell <ap...@gmail.com>.
Next step would be to draft a graduation proposal, which you can find here: https://whimsy.apache.org/roster/ppmc/juneau
The page suggests discussing the proposal on the PPMC private list but I think there is benefit in discussing on the dev list.
Circulate the proposal, see if everyone who is proposed to be on the PMC wants to continue. See if there is a volunteer to be PMC chair, recognizing that PMC chair is simply administrative not leadership.
Personally, I'd like to continue to contribute as part of the PMC.

Re: [DISCUSSION] Ready for graduation?
Posted by James Bognar <ja...@gmail.com>.
I think we’re in agreement that we would like to go forward (or at least I
haven’t seen any objections). I think we should start a vote.
I’ll be willing to work on the proposal/charter.
BTW....this page has many dead links...

We shouldn't wait for the PNS to be complete for doing the graduation
discussions. We should keep that going and ideally get it in front of the
board for this reporting cycle.

I’m a latecomer - I don’t think I used JSON4J…
Until the logo discussion I hadn’t realised Juneau was named after an Alaskan town - I thought of it as Juno with a French accent.
Formally: +1 from me for initiating graduation.

Re: [DISCUSSION] Ready for graduation?
Posted by James Bognar <ja...@apache.org>.
Yea...it's been through the following names...
JSON4J (back in 2007)
JJSON - Changed because JSON4J was used by SEVERAL other projects.
Juno - Changed because it evolved into more than just a JSON toolkit.
Juneau - Changed because the Eclipse foundation took the name 'Juno'.

I think Juneau is the third name it’s been through since I’ve been using it… I’m happy to stick with that :)

It depends on what you're trying to update. I'll go through it tonight and
apply updates, but it may help if I had a full list of releases and dates
we have performed (I can probably dig it up via e-mail).
I pointed out before, the podling name search is not complete for Juneau.
We'll want to submit that before formally talking about graduation. Can
you submit this James?

I think Juneau is pretty close to graduation.

I removed the news section. It was a test. You can safely ignore it. All
of the news should be tracked at
http://incubator.apache.org/projects/juneau.html and
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/public/trunk/content/projects/juneau.xml
in
SVN.
I'll be honest, I think in part we need to discuss personnel on private@
rather than dev@.

How do we make updates to the Whimsy page? I've wanted to update the news
on that page.
