[users@httpd] help please with php setup and apache

I just set up a red hat 8. server with apache and php in the install options.
apachectl will start fine but php does not seem to be set up. I downloaded the latest php and tried to ./configure
it gives me an error saying it cannot find apxs : command not found. if I search for the file I cannot find anything but apxs.html..... where is it or why would it be missing?
whats next?
how do I compile php with this error..
Eric

Try to get the RPM package from http://rpmfind.net search for php and you'll
get tons of them, choose the one that fits to your system.

All the best,
