   Overall the entire status bar will be new and I'd think easily noticeable, inviting users to explore more of what's there, but can understand some initial reaction you observed when testing. Things I tried to establish is a style unique to a clickable action (uppercase, same size and color font as a button) and including an underline suggestive of a link. I do think a background change on hover in this case would help/make sense since the bar is of similar (or maybe the same) height as a button and it is in close proximity to another element (the bulletin).
   
   Another issue I have been trying to avoid adding to is introducing more icons. IMO NiFi has an awful lot already ;)
