   Just stumbled across this and thought I'd point out that the R/DBI version of this is `dbDataType()`: https://dbi.r-dbi.org/reference/dbDataType.html . The gist of the type it returns is:
   
   > All data types returned by dbDataType() are usable in an SQL statement of the form `"CREATE TABLE test (a ...)"`
