This is a reminder of the goal to cut another pre-release December 17th
either named beta2 or rc1 depending on the above conditions. It is not
a big deal if we need to delay the cut to the proposed deadline of
December 23rd.

http://tinyurl.com/yd8n96m
Here is a list of all current bugs targeted at 3.3.0. P1 status means
they must be fixed for 3.3.0 rc1. Please propose further bugs to P1
status if you feel they are important for 3.3.0 final. Please also
propose here if you feel we should exercise the delay from December 17th.

Seconded. I guess I'm spinning the rc1 unless jm wants to do it.

I'm reluctantly going to call the first cut rc1.proposed1 after the
previous discussion. After the 3 day period has passed with no
objections then it will be renamed to rc1 and released.

What usually happens is that a bug was fixed in trunk (3.3),
but then (if it seemed important and not too difficult to mend)
targeted for 3.2.6 just in case this release ever happens.

If one can find any bugs targeted for 3.2.6 but not yet fixed in 3.3,
please promote or copy them to a 3.3 target.

It would be good if someone came up with a way for it to be smarter about charsets, but I don't think that can happen in the 3.3.0 time frame.

I was involved with it when we first ported it to SpamAssassin, but its
been years since I looked at it. I think that I may be the person most
familiar with it, though. I'm afraid that I didn't notice that bug in
the database.

Uppercase characters are a tricky problem that had not occurred to me.
If textcat is going to recognize languages in multibyte charsets without
trying to do any kind of charset decoding, then it can't lowercase all
the characters as if it is assuming that they are Roman ASCII. Unless we
train it on all-uppercase English as a separate language, it won't

I guess any more comments on the bug itself ought to be placed in
Bugzilla. This mailing list is a fair place to discuss whether it should
be considered a blocker for 3.3.0. Personally, I don't think it is. It
may be the case that it is a deficiency in using Texcat in SpamAssassin,

I'd like to remind of my TextCat bug..

I don't know if it's a blocker, but it's a pretty serious source for
misclassifications (someone could even block based on it?).

Justin are you the only one who knows about TextCat? Have you looked at it?

for milestone 3.2.6. Shouldn't these get reviewed and promoted to 3.3.0 if
still valid?

I rather use this opportunity to make a clean break to get rid of
legacy. The change seems to be clear enough, and I am testing the heck
out of this to be sure.

If someone can figure out Bug #6228 then all P1's will be closed by Dec
17th. Even without that bug fixed however, I agree with Mark Marintec
that this next release should be called rc1. This is PRETTY CLOSE to
what people will be using, and some wont try it if it is called beta.
Numbers are cheap. We use this as a 'wake up and test it, this is your
last chance!' get the flurry of bugs and polish it up for January or
February release.

I'd prefer the earlier date to avoid the holiday void.

I'd also prefer if this one were called RC1, to give some
incentive to wider testing, giving people more time for testing
until January. Numbers are cheap, there can be another
RC in January.

Will anyone be able to work on:
Bug 6228 sa-learn --backup is broken
? That is not my familiar territory, and the Bug 6253
and Bug 4949 are giving me plenty to work on.

Another one most likely yes. Whether it's called beta or rc remains
to be decided.

As far as I can tell, the Ubuntu people are looking forward
to a new SA release and have their schedule. Not too tight, but still:

Proposed deadline of December 17th or 23rd to get the next pre-release
cut and proposed for voting. Reading the guidelines on the Wiki and

This is a pre-release, likely the last pre-release before 3.3.0 final.
I do believe the proposed GA should happen after January 2nd.

What is the proposed deadline of December 23rd proposing a deadline for?
Is that when you propose a general availability release? I would, as
we have in the past, be apprehensive about releasing before a major long
and drawn-out holiday. If a flaw is discovered in the release and it
needs to be fixed and a new release cut ASAP (lots of people make a
stink about having to revert or can't figure out how) I'd rather that
all happen when a whole bunch of people aren't unreachable due to family

It was a good catch that RNBL replaced SSBL but I don't see this as a 3.3.0
P1 issue. Same thing with HABEAS/BSP. Can't these be handled in normal
course with GA and then sa-update? I worry we are hurrying these too much.
