[jira] [Commented] (LEGAL-628) GPL Linking Question
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-628?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17637876#comment-17637876 ]
PJ Fanning commented on LEGAL-628:
----------------------------------
This is probably off topic but would it be more generally useful if Drill could support loading external modules? Then the OneDrive module could be created as a non-ASF module. Companies could write Drill modules for their own proprietary data stores.

> Hello,
> I'm the PMC chair for Apache Drill.
> I'm interested in adding an extension to Drill which relies on an external library that is licensed under L-GPL3. The library in question is [https://github.com/isac322/OneDrive-SDK-java. |https://github.com/isac322/OneDrive-SDK-java]
> This is not a core functionality to Drill and can be excluded without compromising any functionality other than this optional feature. I'm wondering:
> # Would it be acceptable to include this with Drill, but only with a flag at compile time? IE: The library would not be included in the binaries and would only be included with an explicit flag.
> # If that doesn't work, do you have any other suggestions?
> Thanks!
