parameter like file.xml?paraname=test

Hello,

how can i work with parameters in the URL 
eg.
http://localhost:8080/cocoon/test/file.xml?parameter1=test

can i check the paramter value in the xml-file or xsl-file?
and how can i do that?

i work with apache 1.3.19 and cocoon 1.8.2
