cygwin hadoop: unable to start secondaryNameNode, DataNode and TaskTracker

Hi,

I am using Hadoop on windows using cygwin. After formatting the
namenode I tried to startup hadoop vai start-all.sh. however only
namenode and Jobtracker are started (checked via $JAVA_HOME/bin/jps).
I checked the tmp directory (hadoop.tmp.dir set in
conf/hadoop-site.xml) and found it to be empty.

There is no exceptions in the log files.

Did anyone encounter this issue before ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
