tomcat standalone on linux in production

1) Can anyone refer me to performance tuning articles on running tomcat
standalone (coyote) on linux in production.
2) Also in need are articles on tomcat linux i386 vs tomcat solaris sparc in
production.
3) I read a year ago that tomcat on i386 linux in production has issues when
under load and should not be attempted - is this still the case?

Thanks in anticipation
Euan

Never heard this before. My production servers are RH Linux 7.2 running
Tomcat 3.x (over 20 separate instances) under heavy load and are rock
stable.
