[jira] [Created] (CRUNCH-181) UUID PType support for Writables

Micah Whitacre created CRUNCH-181:
-------------------------------------

Summary: UUID PType support for Writables
                 Key: CRUNCH-181
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CRUNCH-181
             Project: Crunch
          Issue Type: Wish
          Components: Core
            Reporter: Micah Whitacre
            Assignee: Josh Wills
            Priority: Minor

UUID is a pretty basic and common datatype used for identifiers. It'd be nice if there was support through Writables.uuids() similar to other common data types.

The lack of support is most likely due to the lack of formal UUIDWritable support in Hadoop itself but a UUIDWritable implementation has been posted for awhile[1] and seems pretty trivial to even roll your own and incorporate.
