[J2] Ajax requests to portlet app

I had posted a few messages a while back about how to go about routing an 
Ajax request into my portlet app and still have access to session data for 
the portal but I was never able to get a good direction on this. Does anyone 
have any suggestions here? I know that J2 has some new Ajax support in some 
of the built in functions, but I am interested in calling into my own 
portlet app directly....
