I talked with [~marcuse] about the action items for this ticket. I am assigning it to myself and creating child tickets for each individual action item.
As mentioned, the major compaction changes were CASSANDRA-6696 and CASSANDRA-7019. The testing work will cover performance and correctness relates to those 2 patches.
