Q: How to break a long math formula into two lines

Hi,

I am new to this list and have a problem of entering a long mathematical
formula into a text document and subsequently exporting it as PDF.

Basically I like to have a formula e.g.

(a+b)c

be broken up into two lines as follows:

(a
  +b)c

I tried via inserting newline in the edit window:

(a newline +b)c

But this apparently doesn't work. In the object I got instead:

   a
(i+b)c

with a red i.

Could someone kindly tell me how I could achieve my goal?

Thanks in advance.

M. K. Shen
