[Bug 3952] New: spamd refuses to run as root with -u option

http://bugzilla.spamassassin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3952

Summary: spamd refuses to run as root with -u option
           Product: Spamassassin
           Version: 3.0.1
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: minor
          Priority: P4
         Component: spamc/spamd
        AssignedTo: dev@spamassassin.apache.org
        ReportedBy: richs@whidbey.net

The man page for spamd specifies:

Note: "--username=root" disables the setuid() functionality and leaves spamd running as
root.

When this is used, spamd returns:

Starting spamd: fatal: cannot run as nonexistent user or root with -u option
