+ <p>In Reykjavik there are two university campuses. The conference will
+ most likely be held at one of those university campuses. If necessary
+ other conference venues are available.</p>

+ <p>All necessary equipment (e.g. video/streaming capabilities), free wifi
+ on campus, cafe's, hotels, etc.</p>

+ central Reykjavik in May</p>

+ bus terminal in Reykjavik, the youth hostel and other locations via
+ FlyBus available for a small fee.</p>

+ <p>The Organization for Digital Freedom in Iceland (FSFI). The
+ organization's goal is to spread knowledge and information about digital
+ freedom in Iceland. FSFI holds, for example, an annual conference for the
+ Icelandic public to raise awareness in digital freedoms. In 2008 Eben
+ Moglen and John Perry Barlow were keynote speakers.</p>
+
+ <h3>Local events that are taking place in parallel (or immediately
+ before/after)</h3>
+
+ <p>The team is ready to plan and arrange for activities, both low cost
+ and more expensive ones. Activities could include a trip to Gullfoss (the
+ real one), mountain trips, sightseeing, outdoor spas/swimming pools and
+ more. Reykjavik is full of tourist attractions for conference goers who'd
+ like to plan tours for themselvers, such as ghost tours, viking shows,
+ museums, pubs, etc.</p>
+
+ <h2>Section 2 â Proposal</h2>
+
+ <p>In 400 words or less, answer this question:</p>

+ <p>Why should the Community award OOoCon 2009/2010 to your team?</p>

+
+ <p>Iceland is situated in the middle of the Atlantic and is therefore
+ easily reachable from both Europe and the USA. With the recent fall of
+ the Icelandic currency (ISK) the cost for visitors has fallen sharply and
+ the country has become affordable (it used to be expensive for tourists).
+ There are all sorts of accommodation available, from cheap hostels to
+ high class hotels. A large group of Icelanders offer accomodation via
+ <a href="http://www.couchsurfing.com/">CouchSurfing</a>. The time of the
+ year is perfect as most tourists have left (no accomodation problems) and
+ Icelanders are starting work and school, open to new ideas and
+ opportunities.</p>
+
+ <p>The public and private sector, and the general population in Iceland
+ have limited awareness of FOSS. Recently there has been an increased
+ interest in FOSS. OOoCon would enhance this interest and generate more
+ curiosity for FOSS, especially OpenOffice.org. The government of Iceland
+ has, for instance, released <a href=
+ "http://eng.forsaetisraduneyti.is/information-society/English/nr/2882">a
+ policy on Free and Open Source Software</a>. The uptake of this policy
+ has been slow but has generated some interest in FOSS. Many public and
+ private institutions are looking at OpenOffice.org as a viable option but
+ are afraid of testing it. With OOoCon, we could give them the push.</p>
+
+ <p>Iceland is a country that needs to really have a look at all possible
+ ways to save money after the financial crash of 2008. The conference
+ would open the eyes of many companies and governmental institutions for
+ the possibilities of other software than proprietary software. The
+ aforementioned policy was created mostly with cost savings in mind, both
+ short term and long term. A nation heavily dependent on one company
+ (Microsoft), its office bundle, and old document formats, needs to look
+ at other options. Awareness in OpenOffice.org is needed and OOoCon is the
+ perfect way to achieve it.</p>
+
+ <p>Iceland is simply an awesome location for the OOoCon (think of the
+ photo opportunity: GullFoss bloggers at Gullfoss, drinking a beer named
+ Gullfoss).</p>
+
+ <p>Iceland is the ideal place for fun and action packed nightlife once
+ the conference is over. There is only a short ride to a fantastic nature
+ and scenic experience. If you are lucky, you might catch a glint of
+ aurora borealis winding through the sky at night.</p>
+
+ <p>OOoCon should enjoy a refreshing location in a country with a history
+ and great heritage like Iceland. Vote for Iceland and experience a great
+ OOoCon 2009 at the world's northernmost capital.</p>
+

+ <p>Latvia lies between Estonia to the north, Russia and Belarus to the
+ east, the Baltic Sea to the west and Lithuania to the south. It is the
+ ʻcentralʼ Baltic country in both size, business activity, communications
+ and geographical location.</p>
+
+ <p>Riga is emerging as a top congress and conference city in Europe
+ thanks to its strategic location, its rich and exiting culture, its
+ unspoiled nature and its easy access by air from around Europe and around
+ the globe.</p>
+
+ <p>Latvia has a long history of technological innovation with highlights
+ including the Minox spy camera and one of Europe's largest pre-war
+ telephone networks. Today, Latvia continues this tradition with original
+ scientific research and by hosting a number of companies that use open
+ source software in embedded and professional solutions. Latvia has an

+
+<p>The OpenOffice.org Annual International Conference (OOoCon) is the premier
+event for anyone interested in or working with OpenOffice.org. OOoCon is
+where representatives of all the community projects meet to celebrate and
+learn from the achievements of the past twelve months, and discuss how to
+meet the challenges of the next twelve.</p>
+
+<p>OOoCon 2009 is organized jointly by the <a href="http://www.plio.it">PLIO Association</a> (Progetto Linguistico Italiano Openoffice.org) and <a href="http://www.orvietolug.org">OrvietoLUG</a> in co-operation with the <a href="http://www.comune.orvieto.tr.it">Municipality of Orvieto</a>, Fondazione per il <a href="http://www.uniorvieto.org">Centro Studi "Città di Orvieto"</a>, <a href="http://www.sir.umbria.it">Consorzio SIR Umbria</a> and the <a href="http://www.ccos.regione.umbria.it">Centro di Competenza Regionale sull'Open Source</a>. The conference will be held in Orvieto, Italy, from November 3rd to November 6th 2009.</p>

+<h2>The Location</h2>
+
+ <p>The city of Orvieto, with its 21,000 inhabitants, is one of the most charming cities of art in Italy. Located in Umbria, it's 100 km far from Rome and 140 km from Florence and easy to reach by plane, train and car. It is a center for courses leading to university degrees (Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering), post-graduate courses (Architecture, Health Psychology, Archeology), as well as specialization courses of prestigious Italian universities.</p>
+ <p>The plateau with its tufa cliff walls defines the area of the historical center of Orvieto â a stupendous palimpsest of Etruscan, Medieval and Renaissance structures. The city is known for its efficient congress facilities and a qualified service network for hospitality. Restaurants, wine and champagne bars and pubs offer a variety of the fine wines and foods for which Orvieto is famous. These features together with the intact environment, pleasant climate and a system of alternative mobility make the city ideal for meetings, seminars and study days of all kinds.</p>

+The meeting venue is The Palazzo del Popolo Conference Centre and the Palazzo dei Sette. They are both located in the heart of the city. They are all equipped with wireless-lan (for each participant), amplification systems, audiovisual systems for projection and recording, teleconferencing systems. Every speech will be recorded in audio and video and a videostreaming service for the OOoCon will be setup. Several rooms will be available for public and private group meetings.

+<h3>The OpenOffice.org Community is celebrating its 10th anniversary!</h3>
+
+<p>This year's meeting will be held in one of Europe's most beautiful cities, Budapest, Hungary, from August 31st - September 3rd, 2010.
+We hope you will join us in our celebration and conference!</p>
+
+<p>Whether you are a dedicated developer, a contributor of any measure, or just interested in the project and its technology,
+such as the OpenDocument Format (ODF), we want to hear from you. Please note the conference language is English,
+and all presentations must be delivered in that language.</p>
+
+<p>We particularly welcome proposals from developers and other contributors with information to share with their fellows,
+from how to get started with simple extensions, through to the deep, dirty, and downright fun aspects of hacking the OpenOffice.org codebase.
+We urge creative, ambitious ideas. This is the place for those!</p>
+
+<p>Papers are also welcomed on any topic of interest to the Community: to the thousands of people who have joined one of our Projects and design,
+develop, maintain, translate, test, document, support, promote, or in any other way help us bring OpenOffice.org's products and services to the world.
+We especially encourage local communities to submit papers for a special feature on local success stories.</p>

+ <li>Abstracts must not be longer than 250 words and not shorter than 50; and</li>
+ <li>accepted speakers need to send in their final presentations before the conference. For final presentations, speakers <b>must</b> use the template provided by the OOoCon organizers.</li>

+<h3>Travel Bursaries</h3>
+
+<p>If you need travel assistance, please state so when sending in your abstract. Be precise and specific and indicate exactly what you need assistance for.
+All requesting funding must first inquire with other sources and indicate as much when they make a request to us.</p>
+
+<p>With rare exception, we will only consider subsidizing accepted speakers, and an accepted speaker includes those participating in a panel,
+or otherwise delivering a paper that has been reviewed by the committee. It may not include those leading a Bird of a Feather (BoF) seminar,
+which can be spontaneous events.</p>
+
+<p>If you are awarded a bursary (funding for the travel and lodging) and no longer need it, please notify the organizers ASAP so they can use the funds
+to allow another contributor to attend OOoCon.</p>
+
+<h3>Key Dates</h3>
+
+<p>OOoCon 2010 is open for speaker registration and the submission of abstracts until <b>June 2nd, 2010</b>. The deadline for accepted papers is
+<b>August 2nd, 2010</b>.</p>
+
+<p>An OOoCon template will be provided and we require everyone to create presentations using this template. All accepted speakers are required to send
+in their final presentations before the conference by <b>August 2nd, 2010</b> to the email alias above. More details will be sent out to all accepted
+speakers as the deadline for accepted papers approaches.</p>
+
+<h3>Submission Guidelines</h3>
+
+<p>Papers will be reviewed provided the following conditions are met:</p>
+
+<ol>
+ <li>The submission file is in OpenDocument file format.</li>
+ <li>If submitting to a peer-reviewed track of the conference, authors' names are removed from submission, with "Author" and year used in the bibliography
+ and footnotes, instead of authors' name, paper title, etc.</li>
+</ol>
+
+<h3>Session Types</h3>
+
+<p>In your proposal (abstract), you must state which of the following <b>types of conference session</b> you would like:</p>
+
+<ol>
+ <li>A <i>presentation</i> is a general discussion of some topic, including but not limited to the software, the community, relationships with other
+ software or communities, and political or philosophical issues. Presentations should be limited to 50 minutes, including questions and answers.</li>
+ <li>A <i>workshop</i> is a "hands-on labs" session, in which the presenter takes the audience step-by-step through a task, or provides hands-on tuition
+ for audience in a classroom format. Presenters may request extended workshop sessions up to half a day in duration for complex tasks (e.g. how to set
+ up a build environment).</li>
+ <li>A <i>BoF (Birds of a Feather meeting)</i> is an informal gathering of people in a particular group, or interested in a specific topic. Examples
+ include the members of a native-language group, the marketing project, documentation writers, or the porting project.</li>
+ <li>A <i>panel discussion</i> involves a group of usually 3-4 people led by a moderator. The participants make opening and closing statements on the
+ topic, may discuss the topic among themselves, and may answer questions from the audience, which are usually submitted in advance.</li>
+ <li>A <i>lightning talk</i> is a 5-15 minutes, informal and very practical presentation where the speaker presents how to solve a specific issue.</li>
