custom keywords

I have a project (OFBiz ecommerce) which is deployed for multiple
customers and each instance requires a dozen files to be modified in
order to set IP numbers, ports, database etc.

I would like to define keywords such as $ip$, $dbname$, $dbuser$ and
ideally do some project (branch) based keyword expansion.

Could this be achieved with custom keywords similar to $Rev$? And if so,
how?

I just noticed that custom keywords have been discussed on the dev list
for a while, see issue http://tinyurl.com/8lmcj.

No, not SubVersion config files, config files for your application. Code your
application to read the relevant data out of a config file instead of
compiling the data into the application. Say your application reads foo.ini
to get the database name, etc. Then you can add a customer1.ini,
customer2.ini, ... and just rename the one you want to foo.ini. Simple as
that.

Sorry if I don't understand. I thought svn:keywords can only be used in
conjunction with the predefined keywords ($Rev$ etc.)?
How can I maintain a config file per customer? There is only the one in
the .subversion folder?

Sorry if I didn't understand, but why don't you add config-file support to
your project and have the data read from a config file ? You'd store one
config file per customer and your project sources won't have to be altered
for every customer !
C'ya,
