[jira] [Commented] (FLINK-12650) Redirect Users to Documentation Homepage if Requested Resource Does Not Exist

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLINK-12650?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16849781#comment-16849781 ]

Seth Wiesman commented on FLINK-12650:
--------------------------------------

Relevant documentation:
https://jekyllrb.com/tutorials/custom-404-page/
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5411538/redirect-from-an-html-page

[~rmetzger] The only thing I'm unsure of is how the docs are actually served, the page on the wiki is minimal. If ci.apache.org is fronted by an Apache server we need to modify the `.htaccess` file which might require coordination with apache infra[1].

> Currently, if you go open a documentation page, which does not exist like
> https://ci.apache.org/projects/flink/flink-docs-release-1.8/dev/event_timed.html
> the reply is a 404. In preparation of a larger restructuring, it would be good if instead of a 404 we would redirect the user to the documentation homepage for this version of the docs.
