I just checked in a change to resolve this problem. Please verify.

Rather than add new files I updated program.xml with a blurb on using initialize.

Description:
Guide should more clearly state that Initialize() is required for any
xerces-based program.  At the moment the only indication is its presence in
several examples, which requires you to go to the full API doc to find out that
it's required.
