1.6.5 up for signing/testing
I'm pleased to announce that Subversion 1.6.5 is up for testing and
signing. The magic revision is r38866. You can find the tarballs here:
http://orac.ece.utexas.edu/pub/svn/1.6.5/
Please be sure to test the bindings.
You know the drill: signatures from full committers back to me, and
enthusiastic tester feedback is welcome. At this point, this candidate
is not yet blessed for wide release, so please don't make it available
to people not interested in test-driving the new release.
Distro package maintainers, please do NOT include any pre-release
builds, even blessed, into operating system distros. The reasons for
not doing so were very eloquently outlined by Karl in a mail, which is
summarized at the above address.
The quick version is: we don't guarantee compatibility between the pre-
releases and the final release, so if people install the release
candidate, all their repositories and working copies might break
irreparably when they upgrade to 1.6.3 proper. We don't want that
kind of bad publicity, and neither do you.

Note that unless there is vehement outcry, I'm not planning on
rerolling for this. We've got the fix on trunk, which will backported
to 1.6.x shortly (I suspect), and we can just add a caveat to the
release announcement that it's a failure of the test, and not the code.

The failing ruby tests attempt to resolve a tree conflict
to a state other than --accept=working.
We're digging into it to see if we can fix it quickly.
Ruby experts welcome in #svn-dev.

They aren't bullet numbers, they're counts. The serf failure is
switch_tests 19, the same one you saw failing, the same one that IIRC was
failing in 1.6.4.
Maybe I should have said:
One known serf failure (switch_tests 19, regardless of FS backend)
Two swig-rb failures (test_merge, test_merge_peg)

Were these supposed to be footnotes? I do not see the details anywhere.
Is your #1 the same Serf error I reported? I assume so, I was just
not aware this was an expected failure. If it is, then why was it not
XFAIL?

PLATFORM:

Configure script and Makefiles were rebuilt using autoconf-2.62.

Tested:

Swig bindings.
Results:
--------
All tests passed, except:
- FAIL: switch_tests.py 19: out of date propset should fail after a relocate
(over serf only, known failure)
- FAIL: merge_tests.py 63: merge to sparse directories
(over serf only, the notification output during a merge is ordered
differently for dry-run and real merge, which causes the test to fail)
- The 2 ruby binding test failures fixed on trunk in r38886.

This should probably be "1.6.5 proper." Probably wouldn't be confusing to
many people, but worth pointing out.

Summary:
+1 to release (Unix).
(In Ruby bindings, 2 test failures seen but confirmed as problems only
in the test suite itself.)
Paranoia:
Verified that all 6 distribution packages match their md5sums,
sha1sums and to-tigris copies.
Verified that *.bz2 vs *.gz uncompress to exactly the same tarball,
for both deps and non-deps.
Environment:
OS/Platform:
SuSE SLED10SP2 2.6.16.60-0.33-smp i686 GNU/Linux
Using in-tree build of subversion-deps-1.6.5 packages:
neon
sqlite-amalgamation
Using SuSE distribution-supplied packages:
libapr1-1.2.2-13.2
libapr-util1-1.2.2-13.7
db-4.3.29-15.2
openssl-0.9.8a-18.32
perl-5.8.8-14.10
python-2.4.2-18.25
zlib-1.2.3-15.2
Tested:
[ bdb | fsfs ] x [ ra_local | ra_svn ]
swig-pl
swig-py
swig-rb
Results:
make check ... (4 ways): No failures.
make check-swig-pl: "All tests successful, 7 subtests skipped."
make check-swig-py: "Ran 106 tests [...] OK".
make check-swig-rb: 2 failures, confirmed as test-only problems fixed
by <http://paste.lisp.org/display/85743>, and with that fix "219 tests,
1493 assertions, 0 failures, 0 errors".
