can some one provide some use cases for ChainMapper & ChainReducer

>From the api docs i see that we can make a chain convertion like this
(m1,k1) -> (m2,k2) -> ... -> (mn,kn). but i can not find a use case why we
need this convertion, and not make a direct convetion from (m1,k1) ->
(mn,kn). Can someone provide an example ,thanks in advance.
