Servlet communicatiohn with Turbine

Has any one used a servlet along with Jetspeed that possibly needs to get at
the information in Turbine, like runData or user information. Is there a way
for a class running independently of Jetspeed to talk to Turbine?

We proxy much of the information that is rendered in the portal through a
servlet (with Iframes) but at times we need information that, if we are
using a portlet, comes from turbine.

Any help greatly appreciated.
