How to call a external webservice?

How can we, using provider/consumer endpoints, call an external webservice using servicemix?

Thanks in advance,
João

I don't know why but in this way it doesn't work for me too.
At first It seems to miss service units.
You can try to write

	<sm:container id="jbi" useMBeanServer="true"
		createMBeanServer="true" dumpStats="true" statsInterval="10">
		<sm:activationSpecs>
			<sm:activationSpec componentName="provider">
				<sm:component>
					<http:component>
						<http:endpoints>
<http:endpoint service="xns:HelloServiceProxy"
				   endpoint="endpoint"
				   targetService="xns:HelloService"
				   targetEndpoint="xpto"
	               role="consumer"
	               soap="true"
	               soapVersion="1.1"
	               locationURI="http://localhost:8192/HelloServiceProxy/"
	               defaultMep="http://www.w3.org/2004/08/wsdl/in-out" />
						</http:endpoints>
					</http:component>
				</sm:component>
			</sm:activationSpec>

 			<sm:activationSpec componentName="provider">
				<sm:component>
					<http:component>
						<http:endpoints>
<http:endpoint service="xns:HelloService"
				   endpoint="xpto"
				   role="provider"
				   soap="true"
	               soapVersion="1.1"
	               targetService="xns:HelloService"
				   targetEndpoint="HelloServiceHttpPort"
	               locationURI="http://localhost:8080/xfire-ws/services/HelloService"
	               wsdlResource="http://localhost:8080/xfire-ws/services/HelloService?wsdl" />

						</http:endpoints>
					</http:component>
				</sm:component>
			</sm:activationSpec>
		</sm:activationSpecs>
	</sm:container>

But calling directly the provider (without passing through a router),
you should not be able to retrieve the wsdl, even if the webservice
should work.
If this not a solution, I'm sorry...I need much training...:-(

I'm deploying a service unit on http-component. The xbean.xml is attached.

Thanks a lot Alessio,

I'm not a guru in servicemix  ;)
But I'm working with. If you can send your servicemix.xml, I'll see to
take a look at that...

Re: How to call a external webservice?

Following is the method I added to the HttpSoapTest class in the
servicemix-http junit tests.

    public void testSoapRoundtripConsumerProvider() throws Exception {
        EchoComponent echo = new EchoComponent();
        echo.setService(new QName("urn:test", "echo"));
        echo.setEndpoint("echo");
        container.activateComponent(echo, "echo");

        HttpSpringComponent http = new HttpSpringComponent();

        HttpEndpoint ep1 = new HttpEndpoint();
        ep1.setService(new QName("urn:test", "s1"));
        ep1.setEndpoint("ep1");
        ep1.setTargetService(new QName("urn:test", "s2"));
        ep1.setLocationURI("http://localhost:8192/ep1/");
        ep1.setRoleAsString("consumer");
        ep1.setDefaultMep(URI.create("http://www.w3.org/2004/08/wsdl/in-out
"));
        ep1.setSoap(true);

        HttpEndpoint ep2 = new HttpEndpoint();
        ep2.setService(new QName("urn:test", "s2"));
        ep2.setEndpoint("ep2");
        ep2.setLocationURI("http://localhost:8192/ep3/");
        ep2.setRoleAsString("provider");
        ep2.setSoap(true);

        HttpEndpoint ep3 = new HttpEndpoint();
        ep3.setService(new QName("urn:test", "s3"));
        ep3.setEndpoint("ep3");
        ep3.setTargetService(new QName("urn:test", "echo"));
        ep3.setLocationURI("http://localhost:8192/ep3/");
        ep3.setRoleAsString("consumer");
        ep3.setDefaultMep(URI.create("http://www.w3.org/2004/08/wsdl/in-out
"));
        ep3.setSoap(true);

        http.setEndpoints(new HttpEndpoint[] { ep1, ep2, ep3 });

        container.activateComponent(http, "http");

        container.start();

        PostMethod method = new PostMethod("http://localhost:8192/ep3/");
        method.setRequestEntity(new StringRequestEntity("<env:Envelope
xmlns:env='http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope'
><env:Body><hello>world</hello></env:body</env:Envelope>"));
        int state = new HttpClient().executeMethod(method);
        assertEquals(HttpServletResponse.SC_OK, state);
        FileUtil.copyInputStream(method.getResponseBodyAsStream(),
System.out);
    }

The client is commons-httpclient, which send a simle soap request to ep3
(http consumer).
ep3 forwards it to ep2 (http provider).
The http request is handled by ep1 (http consumer) which forwards to an echo
component.
The response is correctly received on the client side.

Cheers,
Guillaume Nodet

Ok I will try to do both.

But by the what do you use to call the webservice in your simple test case? Could you send me your client and endpoints configuration?

Thanks,
João

Yes, I don't see any clue in the log.
I have tried to setup a simple test case, but found no problems.
Could you try with latest svn head (if you do not use it already).
Else a reproducible test case would be very helpful, I can not do much without it :(

Re: How to call a external webservice?

Posted by Guillaume Nodet <gn...@gmail.com>.
Yes, I don't see any clue in the log.
I have tried to setup a simple test case, but found no problems.
Could you try with latest svn head (if you do not use it already).
Else a reproducible test case would be very helpful, I can not do much
without it :(

Cheers,

RE: How to call a external webservice?

Posted by João Luz <jl...@sinfic.pt>.
I've used the tcp monitor that you refered and the results are attached

WebService.txt contains requests made to the real webservice.
Servicemix-consumer contains requests made to service-mix.
Client-stackstrace.txt contains the output from client execution.

Thanks a lot for the tcpmon hint :)

Could you paste all the http requests sent (request / response) on both the client side and server side using http://ws.apache.org/axis/java/user-guide.html#AppendixUsingTheAxisTCPMonitorTcpmon
or any other tool ?

RE: How to call a external webservice?

Posted by João Luz <jl...@sinfic.pt>.
My client is a XfireProxy

	 String serviceDesc = "http://localhost:8192/HelloServiceProxy/";
	 Service serviceModel = new ObjectServiceFactory().create(IHelloService.class);
	 IHelloService service = (IHelloService) new XFireProxyFactory().create(serviceModel, serviceDesc);
  	 System.out.println(service.hello());

I think it is blocked for a period of time, until it try again to make the request.

Thanks,
João

To receive the response of a component, I think you should use the
eip:pipeline to use the in-out mep functionality.
I haven't use it with a consumer endpoint but with an external
webservice (provider) to catch the response and sent it to other component.
If anyone has other solution (easier)...

Cheers,

I'm only trying to call a webservice via servicemix. The problem is that the request reachs the webservice and goes back to servicemix. But it never reachs the original caller.

I think you shoud use a eip:pipeline in order to receive response from the webservice and send it to the consumer...

For example :

<eip:pipeline service="foo:WS" endpoint="pipelineWS">
         <eip:transformer>
                  <eip:exchange-target service="foo:WService" />
         </eip:transformer>
         <eip:target>
                  <eip:exchange-target service="foo:trace" />
         </eip:target>
</eip:pipeline>

The response of the webservice will be sent to the trace component.

I think you shoud use a eip:pipeline in order to receive response from
the webservice and send it to the consumer...

For example :

<eip:pipeline service="foo:WS" endpoint="pipelineWS">
         <eip:transformer>
                  <eip:exchange-target service="foo:WService" />
         </eip:transformer>
         <eip:target>
                  <eip:exchange-target service="foo:trace" />
         </eip:target>
</eip:pipeline>

The response of the webservice will be sent to the trace component.

Hi,

My starting point was exactly your excelent post.

The problem I have is that all works fine in the request chain, until the moment that consumer endpoint should send the response to the client. Step that I can't figure out how to put working.

1- I call webservice exposed via consumer endpoint
2- Consumer endpoint forwards to a provider endpoint that
3- Provider forwards to the real webservice
4- WebService executes
5- Provider receives the response from webservice and it forwards to the consumer
6- Consumer should send the message to the client, but the message never reachs the client that made the request.

Client, servicemix and Webservice run in 3 different jvm.

Thanks a lot to all,
	João

Note that servicemix-http will do that if you configure your provider
endpoint
with soap="true". You should not need to use xslt transformation to marshal
/
unmarshal soap envelopes.

RE: How to call a external webservice?

Well I think I understood.

So if I have my webservice X I can expose it via servicemix to my clients creating a chain with consumer and provider endpoints, my clients should be to make calls for that webservice like it was no servicemix between them and webservice.

Theoretically, this is correct, isn't it?

Thanks again,

So you don't use consumer endpoint?
You create the input message in component made by you?

Hello,

To call an external webservice, I think you must use a provider endpoint with the servicemix-http component.
For example, I use this service unit :

<http:endpoint
        defaultMep="http://www.w3.org/2004/08/wsdl/in-out"
        service="foo:WService"
        endpoint="myProvider"
        role="provider"
        locationURI="http://localhost:8080/axis/services/myWS"
        soap="true">
</http:endpoint>

The input message must be in a soap envelope and normally, it would be great.

Good luck,

Hello,

To call an external webservice, I think you must use a provider endpoint
with the servicemix-http component.
For example, I use this service unit :

<http:endpoint

        service="foo:WService"
        endpoint="myProvider"
        role="provider"
        locationURI="http://localhost:8080/axis/services/myWS"
        soap="true">
</http:endpoint>

The input message must be in a soap envelope and normally, it would be
great.

Good luck,
