I agree this isn't very helpful. However the ValidatorUtils's getValueAsString
() method has no knowledge of the form being validated and its the class that 
invokes this utility method that need to catch this exception and put out a 
more meaningful message. In your case, thats the Struts FieldChecks class - 
therefore I'm re-assigning this to Struts.
