Does a DTD accelerate XALAN?

Hello,

I'm wondering whether a valid document is faster processed then a (not
valid) well-formed one.
E.g. using "getElementsByTagName()" could work faster if elements "know"
which descendants are valid. This might speed up the transforming
process, too.
