I use mostly xt but I tried xalan with Norman Walsh's XSL stylesheets for 
DocBook and it seems to work fine.

Which is true, as any Web browser will tell you. The right one is 
<http://www.nwalsh.com/docbook/xml/3.1.7/docbookx.dtd>.
