projects based on HWPF

In the "Case Studies" page of POI web site, there are several successful products based on HSSF.
I don't know whether there are case studies based on HWPF.

Are there open source projects based on HWPF?

For reading, yes, loads. For writing, less so - the writing support in 
HWPF needs work (see the notice on the HWPF component page!)
