page numbers in document

Good afternoon,
I would appreciate some assistance with saving page numbers in Open Office. I am able to insert the numbers on the page and it appears to save in my  document but when I forward the document to another person, the recipient does not receive the document with page numbers . Could you please advise me  how to rectify this problem.
