apache-subversion performance

Is there a way to improve, subversion/apache performance? Can anyone
point me to a documentation where i could improve my setup.

Here's my server specs:
apache-2.2
svn-1.3
sles10 sp3
windows ad for authentication

I'm using svn 1.3 as it was the only one the comes with my os.
