embedded fonts Question

I have embedded two Type 1 fonts successfully and can process fine. But I get 
the following message...

"Unable to extract embedded font (xxx) some characters may not disply 
correctly" 


...when I open the pdf...although the fonts DO show correctly. Interestingly, 
it only gives this message for the first embedded font it comes across. So if I 
swap them over it changes the font it complains about...

any ideas ?  I am viewing with Acrobat 4.0
