Geronimo Web Site Design
We have been working on possible web site designs and would like to
obtain the feedback of the community. Here are five different design
types:
http://www.epiqtech.com/corp/products/technology/opensource/apachegeronimoweb.htm
Each of these designs contains distinct elements (bar or tab primary
navigation, header design, left nav bar type, secondary navigation
type). Based on the feedback from the community, we can use colors,
design options, or items that are good from one design in order to
create a more refined design based on community feedback.
Best regards,
Epiq Team

Hate to 'me too', but I'm definitely a fan of #1 also. To my eye,
it's the most 'professional' looking of the four (not that the others
are unprofessional, just that this one is has the perfect balance of
contrast without overloading the eye).

Thanks to the Epiq Team. Great stuff.
I like #1 the most.
Would be interesting to see the user list, dev list links etc.. on the
top right of #1 in a style similar to #4 & #5.

Wow! You guys at Epiq really know your stuff. I like all the designs very
much. My initial reaction was in favor of Version 4 because the color theme
looks exciting while not distracting my attention from the navigation
controls and the main content of the page. However, I must cast my final
vote in favor of Version 1 because it looks most similar to the
administration console and I think that visual consistency will go a long
way towards establishing Geronimo's identity.
Thanks for this valuable contribution to the project!!
Best wishes,
Paul

Agreed that this is great work. I took a look through all of the posts... #1
seems to be the overwhelming favorite. However, there have been a number of
suggested variations -- rounded tabs, etc.
Epiq, could you review the comments and generate a few variations of the #1
theme? I think we could then put them up for a vote...

Glenn,
You continue to dazzle and amaze us. Your based in San Diego, right? It would
be awesome if you can stop by ApacheCon over the weekend so you can meet the
folks that are attending the conference? It would be great to meet you.
As far as the design I think my comments have already been articulated. I like
#3 but with the "rounded" effects from #5.
Great job again :)

This is awesome!
I like #1 best but I really like the curved tabs that seamlessly
blend into the header image in #2 (and the same in #3). I also like
the grey box around "News archive" in version 3, and it really make
it look clickable.
Thanks for all the hard work,

FA...BULOUS! I like #1 and #3. But would like to see
left menu bar in the same color as the header (like
the black one, #5). It frames the contents
beautifully. I also like the button like tabs in the
black one.
Thanks

Cool! Great design work.
I like #1 the most, but would also like to see a version of #5 with the
blue banner from #1 and a matching blue theme applied.

I agree with the others that these proposals are a vast improvement over
what we currently have.
I like the general style/shapes of #4 the best but I think I would
prefer the blue color scheme from #1 for consistency.
I really like the tabs both on the bottom and the top of the banner -
but I think we need some criteria for what would get a tab on the bottom
vs. on the top vs. on the left or right of the main page. In the
mock-up there is a lot of duplicate links in these areas. Perhaps some
general guidelines like "documentation/information" types of links on
the right, process/community links on the left, primary Geronimo page
views in the lower banner tabs (downloads, subprojects, etc...) and
perhaps action types of links on the top (email Geronimo, open a
problem, etc...). These categories for the areas are just an initial
suggestion - I'm sure there are better organizations that others can
recommend.
Thanks for another great set of proposals Epiq team!!!!

These look great!! I like all of them.
I think it might be interesting to see a hybrid of #1 and #5 (keep the
blue feather header of #1, but mix in the sleek edges, top right bar,
tab style and heading style of #5).
I also like the white header a lot in #2 and #3 because it really
emphasizes the falling feather motif, which is one of the project's most
distinctive branding elements. Even if this style isn't used for the
website, it might look great for presentation templates, documentation,
event invitations, etc.
How cool would it be to somehow get this new site launched in time for
the 1.0 release?! All of the screenshots are good enough for now. You
could just put something up and refine it over time.
Cheers,
Erin

PIMP... Very nice work!
I dig #1, but I like the rounded bars from #5
Yummy :-)

W O W !!! Yet again, *stellar* work!
These designs are outstanding! Thank you so much for making the time
to provide these mock ups. I really like them all but #1 and #4 are my
favorites. I like the photo and the way it blends with the colors in
#1 and I really like the contrast of that shade of red against
everything else in #4.
Thanks so much for doing this.

I like #4, its a soothing change from away from the blue. Then #2,#1. I'd
like to see the banner not exactly the same as the console.
