[jira] Commented: (HADOOP-4429) Misconfigured UNIX Groups Break Hadoop

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-4429?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=12640227#action_12640227 ]

Alex Loddengaard commented on HADOOP-4429:
------------------------------------------

I originally stumbled on this problem when using an internal derivative of Ubuntu, with funky LDAP settings. Running Hadoop would generate the following error:

bq. ERROR dfs.NameNode: java.io.IOException: javax.security.auth.login.LoginException: Login failed: id: cannot find name for group ID

The last portion of the error, "Login failed: id: cannot find name of group ID," would also occur when I ran the "groups" binary from a command line.

I propose using a default group in the case that getting a user's groups fails.
