Unable to delete mails

Hi,
I'm able to move items from one mailbox to another (which deletes from source mailbox and creates mail in the target mailbox) but unable to delete the mail directly.
On attempting to delete the mail, following error is obtained
                "The operation cannot be performed because the object has been deleted."

Please advise.
