Jetspeed session Vs tomcat session

Hi,
I want some objects to be stored as a part of the jetspeed user session. I tried using using the tomcat session, but I quickly learned that they are not the same. Can I use the use the jetspeed SessionState object (org.apache.jetspeed.services.statemanager.SessionState) for this ? If so, how do I get this from the tomcat session ? Should I be asking this question to the turbine group ?

Thanks.
Anand
