Hi Alex,

I just give a shot to Flex SDK Installer 3.1, download Flex 4.12.1 + AIR 14

Note also the two "Installation complete" - looks like a callback is being called twice?

	• Installing frameworks configuration files configured for use with an IDE
	• H:\flexsdk\ApacheFlex_Nightly is now an IDE compatible folder
	• Installation complete
	• Unable to clean up temporary installation directories
	• Installation complete

You can just commit the files and close the bug.

No problem at all Alex.

I am going to translate to Polish language those 3 files witch you have
pointed to DarkStone.
Once I have those files I should commit pl_PL.properties to repository or
add them to https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLEX-34311 ?

I'm surprised it translated at all. I think those strings are coming from

Hi Alex,

I have strange behavior with added Polish translation to installer. When I
start installer it automatic choose pl_PL witch is good. I see that most of
the strings are translated, but when I go to the third step I see some
untranslated text. I'm changing in that moment language for example to
English and again back to Polish.

Third Step: http://images.devs-on.net/Image/vRAUACuLzOXcMDcp-Obszar.png
Result after changing:
http://images.devs-on.net/Image/o37Ko1EEoO3tlPh8-Obszar.png

After those change I see translated text, I am not sure what has happened ?

Installer ver. 3.1.0

Some strings are duplicated in these three files, but they are different.
One is for the Installer and its UI. The other two are for the SDK and
FlexJS install scripts. The strings from those files do show up in the
Installer and also show up for those running the install from Ant.

Yes, by default we try to use your system language strings. You can see
from the discussion with Darkstone how to create languages strings for
pl_PL if you have time.

The only way I could reproduce this was to bring up the log window, then
close the main installer window which leaves the log window up. Could
that be what you did? I put in a fix for that.

Thanks,

Hi Alex,

I've just tried installer and installation went ok, but in the install log I
have following information:

1) Using locale: pl_PL - Why we have here pl_PL - This value has been
retrieved based on my system language ?
2) Unable to clean up temporary installation directory - This mean that
directory "temp" in the installation folder wasn't deleted ? I saw that
directory when installation has started, but now it isn't there so he was
probably deleted.

Hi Alex,

I think I'll try the 2nd method you just told me.

At the earliest, I will finish translations and testings by the end of next
week.

At the latest, by the end of this month, for I'm also very busy like
everybody else.

I'll keep you posted : )

Hi Darkstone,

That would be great! Yes, you will end up producing six files.

Just to be clear, the properties file you have started on cannot be tested
by renaming it to local.properties. To test it, we can either:

1) have you send us the files, we post it on the server, you try it and
send new fixes. The downside to doing this is that anybody in China
running the Installer will see this work in progress until we get it
working.

2) You test the files locally by running the installer with some
additional command line arguments. To do this method, you would
	A) copy sdk-installer-config-4.0.xml
	B) add entries for your translation files. Use file:// URLs to point to
the local files
	C) run the installer with the command-line argument -config=<url of your
copy of sdk-installer-config-4.0.xml> Use a file:// URL to point to a
local copy

For the other four files, I'm about to start creating release candidates
for FlexJS this week and hopefully the main SDK late this week or next
week. We have some bug fixes that really need to get out to customers
soon so if it takes you until the end of the month you may miss that
release window but they'll be in the next release. And in the interim,
folks in China using the installer can copy the appropriate file as
local.properties, or use Ant and copy the properties files into the
installer.properties folder before running Ant. That said, if I find some
time, I will look into having the installers also pick up properties from
the web server, then your translations can be used as soon as they are
ready.

Thanks,
-Alex

Hi Alex,

I have downloaded all 3 en_US.properties files you told me, I think I know
what to do now.

I will translate those 3 en_US.properties files to Chinese in zh_CN and
zh_TW, which means there will be 6 resulted properties files.

I've already started working on the 1st en_US.properties translations
http://flex.apache.org/installer/properties/en_US.properties

I think maybe next week I can finish all the translations and some testings,
and by the end of this month they shall be ready for release.

I'll let you know if I got problems : )

Re: [DISCUSS] Release Apache Flex SDK Installer 3.1 - RC1

Posted by Alex Harui <ah...@adobe.com>.
Hi Darkstone,

There are three different en_US.properties files.

1) The Installer strings which affects what the Installer displays while
you select a release package and folder. You have found that one posted
at:
http://flex.apache.org/installer/properties/en_US.properties

2) The SDK install strings used for both Apache Ant installs and by the
Installer after you've selected the folder. It is in each source release
and in Git. Here it is under fisheye:
https://fisheye6.atlassian.com/browse/flex-sdk/installer.properties/en_US.p
roperties

3) The FlexJS install strings for both Apache Ant installs and by the
Installer after you've selected the folder. It is in each source release
and in Git. Here it is under fisheye:
https://fisheye6.atlassian.com/browse/flex-asjs/installer.properties/en_US.
properties

It is the latter two that you can rename to local.properties for testing.
To override where the SDK downloads swfobject, add a swfobject.url.server
entry to your local.properties file such as:
	swfobject.url.server=http://github.com/swfobject

Overridding the initial set of strings used by the Installer is a bit
tricker as I mentioned.

The SWFObject download from github has different packaging. I did see a
notice that SWFObject intends to move its home to GitHub, so I will try to
adjust the build scripts to work with the new packaging.

Thanks for working on this.

-Alex

Hi Alex,

One thing I forgot to mention:

The approach to use the IP address of code.google.com is not good, I cannot
access through the IP directly in China.

So the only ideal method right now is to use GitHub.com

Hi Alex,

I got most of what you said, just a few things to clear up, so correct me if
I'm wrong:

1. In order to make zh_CN.properties and zh_TW.properties, I have to get a
latest en_US.properties to start with, can I just use this file?
http://flex.apache.org/installer/properties/en_US.properties

2. In order to test zh_CN.properties or zh_TW.properties in the final look,
I have to rename one of them to local.properties, and place it in the Flex
SDK destination folder, then test it on the UI, right?

3. "That local.properties should affect where SWFObject is downloaded from,
and all strings shown during the install after you accept licenses."
Again, I can't find where to change the URLs of SWFObject and other
dependency files, I look through the en_US.properties, and I don't know
where to change those URLs, please enlighten me :)

4. "You will have to create a similar .properties file for FlexJS as it
downloads Google Closure from google as well."
I don't know what you mean by a similar .properties file for FlexJS, is it
not based on en_US.properties which I can translated with? Does FlexJS use a
different .properties? If so, which .properties can I use for a template
file in order to do the translations?

5. Please have a look at this file from GitHub version SWFObject
https://github.com/swfobject/swfobject/archive/master.zip
I worry about whether the zip file is compatible with the Flex SDK Installer
or not. If it's not compatible, can we just use
https://github.com/apache/flex-sdk to provide the compatible SWFObject zip
file?

Re: [DISCUSS] Release Apache Flex SDK Installer 3.1 - RC1

Posted by Alex Harui <ah...@adobe.com>.
I should add that the overriding of servers is only supported in the
latest Flex and FlexJS Nightly builds. When using the installer,
right-click, choose "Show Dev Builds" then the list of choices should
include the Nightly Builds.

The latest nightly builds don't use the sdk-installer-config-4.0.xml file
to determine where to find OSMF/SWFObject portion.

Normally, when you run the Installer, it asks you to choose a folder where
you want the SDK to be installed. That is the destination folder. Place
your local.properties in that folder before you accept the licenses and
continue the install. That local.properties should affect where SWFObject
is downloaded from, and all strings shown during the install after you
accept licenses. When you are satisfied with it, we will include it in
the next SDK release. You will have to create a similar .properties file
for FlexJS as it downloads Google Closure from google as well.

To test the translated strings that the Installer shows while you select a
release package, destination folder and accept licenses is a little bit
harder. You can override via the command-lie where the Installer looks
for sdk-installer-config-4.0 (which is where it gets the list of languages
and URLs for the language properties files) and alter
sdk-installer-config-4.0 to point to your translated files, or you can
send us your first attempt at translated files and well post them live and
if you find mistakes we'll quickly try to update them.

I look forward to seeing your translations,

-Alex

Re: [DISCUSS] Release Apache Flex SDK Installer 3.1 - RC1

Posted by DarkStone <da...@163.com>.
Hi Alex,

"you can test by creating a local.properties files in the destination
folder"
Can you tell me where the destination folder is?

I installed Flex SDK Installer in D:\Apache Flex SDK Installer\ on Windows
7, and I took a look at this file
D:\Apache Flex SDK Installer\installer\sdk-installer-config-4.0.xml

In sdk-installer-config-4.0.xml I can see the URLs of all the dependencies
including SWFObject and FlexJS, so if I just change the URL of SWFObject in
sdk-installer-config-4.0.xml, will the Installer use that URL or not?

In Chinese there are two mainstream languages (and a lot of less popular
languages):
Chinese Simplified (zh_CN) for the main land
Chinese Traditional (zh_TW) for Taiwan Island

I will work on both zh_CN.properties and zh_TW.properties this week, I have
no problem in translations, I'll keep you updated.

Re: [DISCUSS] Release Apache Flex SDK Installer 3.1 - RC1

Hi Darkstone,

I just sent more information on how to override these properties. I
forgot to mention that when testing, since it is cumbersome to inject
these properties into the release artifacts, you can test by creating a
local.properties files in the destination folder. Create a folder, make
sure that local.properties is the only file in there, and select that
folder when running the Installer and it should start using new URLs and
new language strings.

Thanks,
-Alex

Hi Alex,

I just found an accessible SWFObject release from GitHub
https://github.com/swfobject/swfobject

GitHub is not ever blocked in China, it's safe to use, but the download
bandwidth of GitHub is limited, average 10KB/s per file, acceptable however.

In en_US.properties, I don't see anywhere I can change the SWFObject URL,
maybe we should add some parameters to that file so we can change the URLs
of each dependency.

Hi Alex,

I think I might have known what you mean.

I just downloaded
http://flex.apache.org/installer/properties/en_US.properties

I have a quick look what's inside, it's like an language based preference of
the Flex SDK Installer.

I think you want me to work a zh_CN.properties for the Chinese language, I'd
love to do that.

The only problem is I don't know where I can get a SWFObject release other
from code.google.com

I will work on zh_CN.properties in this week I think, and I will inform you
when it's done.

Re: [DISCUSS] Release Apache Flex SDK Installer 3.1 - RC1

Sorry, I should have provided more detail. There are two ways to install
any Flex SDK: using Apache Ant or using the Apache Flex SDK Installer.
The Installer uses the properties files that are on the flex.apache.org
server like this:
http://flex.apache.org/installer/properties/en_US.properties

Then, each SDK has its own en_US.properties that dictates the strings used
in the Ant install and as the Installer is executing that SDK's install
script. You can find those en_US.properties files in the SDK source code.
It would be great to have all of these translated to Chinese.

It is this last set that also allows you to override where the downloads
come from. If you set, for example, swfobject.url.server to a different
server it will look there for the download. You can also set
swfobject.url.folder and swfobject.url.file if you need to. There are
similar properties that can be overridden for Google Closure compiler and
library used by FlexJS.

Now, what to use? I don't know the rules in China so you'll have to help
us figure it out. If you can just use the direct IP address of
googlecode.com, that's great, if you can find a place to host these files
inside China, that would be great too.

Feel free to ask more questions as we try to figure this out.

Thanks,
=Alex

Hi Alex,

"Actually, it would be great if you could provide the Chinese equivalent of
installer.properties/en_US.properties"

I don't quite follow what you mean, could you please explain it in detail.

"and a set of URLs that can be used from China to access these downloads."

I'd like test any URLs you want me to test, but where is that set of URLs
you're talking about?

Hi Darkstone,

Actually, it would be great if you could provide the Chinese equivalent of
installer.properties/en_US.properties and a set of URLs that can be used
from China to access these downloads. I would prefer not to use IP
addresses for everyone, just those that can't otherwise access google URLs.

Thanks,

Hi Alex,

This time I tried Flex 4.12.1 + AIR 13 + FP 13, got an expected error
(SWFObject cannot be downloaded from code.google.com, no surprise cuz I'm in
China):

Version 3.1.0 (windows)
Using Locale:zh_CN
Fetched the SDK download mirror URL from the CGI.
AIR version 13.0
Flash Player version 13.0
Creating Apache Flex home
Creating temporary directory
Downloading Apache Flex SDK from:
http://mirrors.hust.edu.cn/apache/flex/4.12.1/binaries/apache-flex-sdk-4.12.1-bin.zip
Verifying Apache Flex SDK MD5 Signature
The Apache Flex SDK MD5 Signature of the downloaded files matches the
reference. The file is valid.
Uncompressing: D:\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64
Bit)\sdks\4.12.1\temp\apache-flex-sdk-4.12.1-bin.zip
Finished uncompressing: D:\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64
Bit)\sdks\4.12.1\temp\apache-flex-sdk-4.12.1-bin.zip
Downloading Adobe AIR Runtime Kit for Windows from:
http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/win/download/13.0//AdobeAIRSDK.zip
Finished uncompressing: D:\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64
Bit)\sdks\4.12.1/in/AdobeAIRSDK.zip
Installing Adobe Flash Player playerglobal.swc from:
http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/updaters/13//playerglobal13_0.swc
Downloading swfobject_2_2.zip from: http://swfobject.googlecode.com/files
      [get] [IOErrorEvent type="ioError" bubbles=false cancelable=false
eventPhase=2 text="Error #2032" errorID=2032]

I think that's it, I'll participate in more tests when Flex SDK Installer
3.1 RC2 is out.

Hope it helps : )
