If apache is prompting you for the Twate passphrase then it is really
loading that cert. This is probably just a caching issue in your
browser. Kill and restart the browser between retries.

Er, hmmm... That doesn't sound quite right.
If you are using the same key for both certs, then that doens't mean you are
necessarily using the correct cert from Thawte.
Have you saved the cert that Thawte gave you into a file and then updated
Apache's configuration file to the correct path and filename of the issued
cert?
