[Bug 120792] New: Selecting range

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=120792

          Priority: P3
            Bug ID: 120792
          Assignee: ooo-issues@incubator.apache.org
           Summary: Selecting range
          Severity: major
        Issue Type: DEFECT
    Classification: Application
                OS: Windows XP
          Reporter: 466385@tiscali.co.uk
          Hardware: PC
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
           Version: AOO 3.4.1
         Component: editing
           Product: spreadsheet

I just updated Open Office to V.3.4.1 and started editing an existing graph on
an existing spreadsheet. I tried to add to the data range by selecting
Edit/Data Ranges.

I was able to add a new range, allocate a single cell for the range name, but
when I tried to select a range for the Y values, the cursor just kept on
scrolling down the page. The page was locked. I could use other software, but
it was slow starting. I let the "select" process run whilst I did something
else and eventually learned that the spreadsheet has about 135000 lines, when
it stopped. Even then, I couldn't deselect the graph, but could save and exit
the spreadsheet. I restarted OO, opened the spreadsheet and tried again, with
the same result. This time I hit the Reset button to stop it.

I've seen similar "runaway" scrolling issues in Calc with AOO 3.4.1 on Windows
XP. But I've never come up with a reliable set of steps to reproduce it.

ALG: Tried with trunk version on Win7, does not happen. Scroll can be stopped
as expected by moving the mouse to the left again.

I tried to recreate the bug with a new spreadsheet, including creation of a
chart - no luck.

I then copied the affected sheet from the multi-sheet spreadsheet, renamed it
and repeated the graph editing process - no luck.

I then went back to the original spreadsheet and this time managed to complete
the editing of the chart (and others) without problems. If it happens again,
I'll try to report it more comprehensively.

Thanks in the meantime,

Ian

Such problems were reported from time to time, and I have seen them too.
Unfortunately there exists no scenario yet to reproduce the faulty behavior
reliably. And when a developer does not see the bug, he cannot fix it.

So the first step is, to get a way to reproduce this "runaway" scrolling.

If you could reliably reproduce the problem with a special document, it would
be helpful, when you attach the document and describe very exactly, step by
step, what you are doing.

Your comments are of little help.

I have a spreadsheet scrolling as I type this that I cannot stop. It cannot be
copied to send to you. I am unable to close it. I have been working on it for
an hour or so and do not know what I shall lose when eventually it does stop.
I am unable to close the document and another that I am working with alongside.
I am unable to work, stop or anything.
