Yes I used  <menu ref="parent"/> (and it works with site:stage).
I can't find a repo with the 2.0 version of the plugin (perhap's could you help me for that ?)
I have attached a sample project with same problem (top.zip).
In this sample, the parent menu is not displayed in the pmd-rules module site if generated with mvn site. but it appears with mvn site:stage.
