[jira] Created: (UIMA-1183) visual cue for selected annotation

visual cue for selected annotation
----------------------------------

                 Key: UIMA-1183
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/UIMA-1183
             Project: UIMA
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Sandbox-CasEditor
    Affects Versions: 2.2.2
            Reporter: Philip Ogren

It is often hard to tell which annotation is selected. For example, when you click on an annotation in the outline, nothing changes in the text pane. This can be very disorienting if you have many annotations of the same type close together. Some visual cue would be very helpful. The default behavior in knowtator is to draw black lines above and below the span of the selected annotation. Another provided option is to fade out all of the other annotations leaving only the selected annotation a bright color. (I like the former better).

Additionally, it would be nice if the annotations related via type features to the selected annotation could be visualized in the text pane. Knowtator does this by drawing dashed lines above and below the annotations that are related to the selected annotation.

Hi Philip,

the annotation which is selected in the outline view should be selected in the text editor. An annotation which
is part of feature structure and selected should be also be selected in the editor.

I think this is somehow broken on your machine, I would like to find out why and fix it.
For this I need more information from you.

Please go to the about dialog and click on configuration details and attach
these to the issue.

It would also be nice if you can attach a a screenshot which shows that the selection in the editor does not work
when something in the outline is selected, maybe this gives a clue.

Thanks,
Jörn
