Support Task to Familiarize with Data Import Tool

Kumaranth and mentors,

We have a customer in the community  (Sreejan) who's facing difficulties
using the data import tool to upload groups successfully into Mifos X. They
don't have enough budget to be a paying customer of a branded version of
Mifos so were looking at whatever community support they could receive.

I thought that given you're beginning to familiarize yourself with the tool
- supporting this customer would be a good lesson in understanding the use
cases and requirements for how the tool is used.

Hi Kumaranath,

I like the fact you are willing to take this up, but don't feel pushed.

You are an intern as part of the GSOC project and it is not your business to help others in the community to save money by using an intern to do a job a professional member of the community is able to do too.

I'm sure others can jump on that too, providing some help as part of their participation in this project.

I will give you a walkthrough of the import tool code and we will check which import templates in the tool are fully functional and which ones need updation to comply to any API specification changes.

After that you can arrange a call with someone from Sreejan and see what difficulties that person is facing.

Hi Ed/ all,

we successfully uploaded the data. The issue was with date format. Only MM/DD/YYYY date format is allowed in the data import tool. Thanks to Avik and Sampath (from Mifos Support) for the timely help. Much appreciated!



Two minor issues:

1. The interest rate can not be given in actual decimal places (such as 14.3%) instead it takes only rounded number (14%)
2. The charges can not be attached. Charge ID is not known therefore it's doesn't work.

Hi Ippez,

Summarizing details :-


   - Template was already existing in client's machine and seemed tampered
   with or was a version which I have never seen. Ex:- Interval dropdown was
   not displaying any values, error message column had some data validation on
   it enforcing it to be a dropdown. Once the fresh group template was
   downloaded, there weren't any issues.

Hi Ed/ Avik,

There is a bug in Data Import Tool that it can't process decimal interest rate. There is an existing Jira, I believe. Can this be fixed? 

We are held up due to this and unable to start using Mifos as our core system.

Your help would be highly appreciated.
