components with textfields, but without the Form component

I have tried this in the past without success.  I still would like to factor out some common form controls into a component, and include my component under many different "Form" components.  My custom component would just be a set of  TextFields and labels.

The last time I did this, my app barfed saying that my form controls needed to be wrapped by a Form component (which they were but outside that component template)

I was hoping someone may have gotten around this.
