When a session is timed out via the idle timeout AbstractSession.close(false) is called,  which should close the session and notify any session listeners.   

However it seems that the following code in the IoSessionCloser never gets executed :

for (SessionListener sl : l) {
                    sl.sessionClosed(s);
                }

and the following log messages are never output :

log.debug("Closing IoSession");
log.debug("IoSession closed");
