installation docs for cocoon2

Hi,
I am interested in trying out cocoon2, but the installation docs do not seem
to be correct. Specifically the following instruction:

Copy [path-to-Cocoon2]/bin/cocoon.jar to [path-to-Tomcat]/lib, as well

the /bin directory is not included when the following anoncvs command is
run:

cvs checkout -r xml-cocoon2 xml-cocoon

If someone could direct me to any resources I've missed, or point out my
error, I would appreciate it.

Joel

I used the following path:

build/cocoon/cocoon.jar

Also:

build/cocoon/cocoon.war

and:

build/cocoon/webapp/

(I am confused what the *.war file is for. Presumably I should only
have to copy the *.war file, and not the directory, but in practise I
have to copy both. Perhaps this is my fault for doing something wrong,
but it hasn't concerned me enough to check on it.)

Unfortunately I suspect it will be a while off. I plan to incorporate
something I have written already (CommandEngine and Commandlets) and make
it accessible via telnet/ssh/whatever. With that you should be able to do
*most* management but that wont be till the end of the year unfortunately.

Cheers,

Pete

http://java.apache.org/framework

The documentation is under construction, but more complete
than it used to be.

thanks in advance.

Ok, got it.

Being Cocoon a servlet, I'd be _totally_ against providing direct SNMP
capabilities or even implementing JMX services directly in Cocoon.

Avalon is planning to add JMX services for its blocks and Tomcat will be
ported under Avalon, while Cocoon will be both Avalon-aware and a
servlet... in both cases it will inherit JMX services and you'll get
what you want.

> Do you know when Avalon will be providing JMX support?

Eh, good question. Not soon as you'd like would be a good answer... but
you could always help us implementing it :)

I am thinking along the lines of SNMP support. I know there is an SNMP
module for the Apache Web server. We are currently in talks with a few
customers about using a Cocoon-based product and one of the major questions
is "how do we monitor the system". As Cocoon is a servlet - can it (could
it) integrate into some form of systems management.

Do you know when Avalon will be providing JMX support?

Thanks and regards

Matthew

Please, can you elaborate more on the subject? I'm not sure I get what
you mean by "System Management Software".

Are there any thoughts or plans on the above subject floating around? It
seems clear that if Cocoon is to be installed in critical environments then
there needs to be some support for systems management.

Is it a question of write your own at the moment?
